Topic:Under the Sea, On the Beach and Land Ahoy
Communication, reading and writing
In communication we will continue to develop communicating through speech, pictures, symbols and Makaton signs. Using themed texts linked to our topic we will enjoy stories and rhymes using pictures and props to act them out. Launchpad and phonics activities will support in developing communication skills through early reading and writing.
Cognition
In cognition we will start with the focus on numbers, counting and number songs. We will enjoy listening to and joining in with known numbers songs using objects and props to support understanding of early number. We will also be working on how we can group objects by colour or type e.g. fish and crabs.
Physical Development
In physical development we will continue to work on stopping and going to sounds. Ball skills will also be a focus, pushing and throwing balls to an adult during a turn taking activity. We are looking forward to spending much more time outside this term where we can develop these skills alongside our gross motor work. Developing our fine motor skills will continue using mark-making equipment and strengthening our hands and fingers.
Independence and Life Skills
We will continue to give the children a wide range of opportunities to develop their independence and confidence within school and out of school on visits. This term we will also focus on food preparation and creating healthy snacks.
PSHE/RSHE
This term our key focus will be on supporting social skills. We will start taking part in turn taking games and activities with our.
My World
Water will be the focus of this term as we are learning all about under the sea and the seaside. The first half-term will be all about under the sea where we look at different creatures we may find in the water. We will visit an Aquatics centre to look at the different range of fish and creatures we could see. Then, after half-term in our pirate theme, we will focus on the beach, boats and other transport.
Arts and Music
In Art we will be focusing on creating marks in many different ways using a range of tools. We will independently explore how we can make a mark, create a picture or sculpture by experimenting.
ICT/Computing
In ICT we will be focusing on using touch screens. We will be touching and releasing targets on the screen to make things happen. We will then have to keep touching the target to continue the desired effect, such as an animation movement or a sound.
