Topic: Woodland

 

Communication and Interaction

Our key texts for this term are The Gruffalo and Foggy Foggy Forest.  Pupils will be introduced different parts of the text each week alongside an immersive activity like Sensory Bins and Character Matching. Pupils will work on their listening skills identifying key rhymes and moments within the text.

We will encourage pupils build on their anticipation, curiosity, and engagement through supported and independent learning sessions.

Pupils will be asked to questions to support their engagement within the sessions.  Pupils will explore a range of communication methods including Objects of Reference, Makaton and Symbols. We will share a range of Autumn and Winter rhymes throughout the term and explore seasonal stories with our friends and support staff.

 

Cognition and Learning

 

In Cognition, we will be developing our problem-solving skills through posting and placing objects within different types of containers. Pupil will explore the concept of big and small begin to distinguish differences in the size of objects. Additionally, pupils will explore the cause and effect using a range of objects and also the computer and in other IT resources. Pupils will explore and play during pattern and repetition activities such as threading and building blocks. Pupils will explore early number and amounts using pictorial and concrete representations. As the seasons change, pupils will explore play with comparing temperatures and environmental changes. Pupils will explore clothing changes, having the opportunity to dress up in seasonal outfits such as hats, gloves, scales and raincoats.

Physical and Sensory 

As part of our Physical and Sensory development we will be exploring a range of carousel activities in PE. These activities will be centred around building on our throwing, rolling and kicking a ball to a friend or member of staff. We will also play parachute games. Pupils will be encouraged to develop their fine Motor Skills through activates like Pom Pom Pots and The Postman.  Pupils will develop their Gross Motor Skills during sessions like Soft Play, Shabang and Sensory Walks.

As part of our diverse arts sessions, we will be learning how to make Gruffalo Buns, Fairy Wands, Woodland Atmospheric Music and so much more. We will explore our woodland environment through coloured materials like green, orange, brown and red.  We will be working with Rosie from Darts each week in our music sessions!

 

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

As part of our Social and Emotional development will be going outside for walks to explore the effect Autumn has on trees and wildlife within our local area. Pupils will regularly explore mirrors to support our understanding of our face and facial features. We will observe photographs of ourselves and familiar activities to support our understanding. Pupils will also begin to look at and identify our friends during in peer-based learning and photographs. We will also be learning to take turns with our friends through a range of activities and learning to wait our turn. We will work on our self-regulation through spending time in our classroom calm reading corner and within the white tent exploring sensory lights and objects.
