Yellow Class

Our topic: Space

Communication and Interaction

Our key texts this term are ‘Whatever Next!’ and ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. We will develop our listening skills during story time and explore a range of sensory resources alongside. We will also take part in a range of sensory walks in and around school, using objects of reference, photographs and symbols to support. We will engage in choice making throughout all aspects of our learning, communicating our preferences and matching objects to objects, photographs and symbols. Other communication focused activities will include, Shabang, TACPAC, Intensive Interaction & Pre-phonics sessions.

Cognition and Learning

In cognition, we will take part in a range of circle times, developing our attention skills incl. exploring colours and focusing on a range of visual and auditory toys. We will continue to develop our tracking skills and problem solve by exploring and identifying hidden objects. ICT and switch activities will be focused around our space topic – such as counting songs, dark/light touch screen and rocket sounds!

Physical and Sensory

We will access our space themed classroom provision through a range of postural changes including our work chairs, the floor and in other individual specialist equipment. We will continue to access soft play and the main hall during PE sessions, further developing our exploratory movements and co-ordination skills. Our weekly body awareness sessions will enable us to follow/listen to the music and move our bodies in different ways, with the support of adults where necessary. We have already begun anticipating the sounds with the movements as the music starts.

Swimming and Rebound will also be available for pupils.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

We will continue to take part in our ‘quiet time’ sessions, including candle time and ready to learn regulation – where we will listen to calm music, explore bubbles and track sensory lights. We will also continue to work alongside our peers and develop our friendships and acceptance of others in our space further – through dinner time, choice time, games and other group activities.

Autumn term is one for lots of celebrations. We will take part in fundraising days such as Jeans for Genes, MacMillan coffee morning, Harvest Festival and Christmas celebrations!

Rosie from DARTS will join us again for our music sessions this term!
