Topic: Under the Sea and On the beach

Communication/Phonics

This term we will have a Makaton  specialistjoining us on a Monday morning to deliver a communication session based around being under the sea. In our class communication sessions, we will be engaging in sensory stories linked to ‘On the beach’ and developing our knowledge and understanding of different stimuli. We will also be working on using yes and no switches within sessions.

Cognition

In Cognition we will be developing our understanding of early numbers through number songs. We will be singing, “5 little seashells.” We will also be building our attention and engagement skills within our ‘bucket time’ activities, which will be themed around our topic. Within sessions, we will also be working on developing our understanding of cause and effect.

My World

Within our ‘My World’ sessions we will be developing our understanding of areas within our classroom and beginning to link these to pictures. We will then be extending this to areas around school, including outdoors.

Music

This term we have music sessions delivered by DARTS.

Art

This term we will be creating under the sea and beach themed art.We will be exploring different sensory media and using different utensils to mark make with.

IT

In IT we will be using the IT Suite and exploring the different types of IT equipment within school. We will be looking at how technology can be controlled by using the switches, magic carpet, sensory pod, IPad and computers.

Life Skills

This term we will be using blenders to learn how to mix different ingredients. Pupils will extend their switch skills to be able to develop independence skills during the session.

Physical

In PE, we will also be looking at control of equipment such as balls and parachutes. We will also be attending our Active Fusion sessions on a Tuesday afternoon.
